Commercial Careers

I’m Alanah Sutton and I am the Director of Commercial Careers’ for 2026.

Commercial Careers’ is a vital part of the Law Student Association as it enables students to discover and explore commercial career pathways. This portfolio works closely with law firms in order to provide students with multiple events, networking opportunities and insight into firm environments. These include firm presentations, the Careers’ Panel Night and the annual Commercial Careers’ Cocktail Night.

By attending these events, students can not only make connections with peers and lawyers but gain valuable understanding of what a career in commercial law is all about. While all students are welcome to attend our events and get a head start, pre-penultimate and final year students will find the experience gained to be excellent preparation for clerkship applications. Events run frequently throughout the first semester, meaning students have many opportunities to attend. Our final event, the Commercial Careers’ Cocktail Night will then end off the semester with a bang.

As a Director, I receive invaluable assistance from my Officers; Hoda Eliskendrani and Lachlan Baker-West. They each provide something special to the portfolio, and put in lots of effort to ensure everything runs smoothly. We can’t wait to offer our students some exciting events and help prepare them for their time after law school.
