External Competitions

My name is Kara Allen, and I am the Director of External Competitions for 2026.

External competitions are a fantastic way to gain hands-on, practical experience in advocacy, legal research and written communication, while connecting with other like-minded students and professionals in a competitive environment. In this role, I coordinate La Trobe teams to compete in intervarsity mooting competitions, convene the second annual La Trobe University Social Justice Moot – which will be based around Family Law this year – and oversee the La Trobe University Law Student Association’s Mooting Mentorship Program, a supportive initiative for students looking to hone their advocacy skills and transition from internal to intervarsity competitions.

So whether you are a beginner mooter looking to challenge yourself or an experienced competitor looking to build your mooting resume, there is something for everyone. On behalf of the External Competitions Portfolio for 2026, we look forward to seeing what you can bring to the mooting stage this year.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact externalcompetitions@latrobelsa.com.
